Description

Watered Elm

European elm is characterised by its often coarse grain. Due to the strong growth of the barrels in spring, elm wood often has beautiful markings. Elm wood is solid, tough, fairly light and usually uniform in texture. In watered elm, the sapwood resembles the heartwood. In the past, all sorts of things were made from watered elm. Wheel hubs and steering wheels, tool handles, brushes, oars, clogs and casting moulds. Nowadays, elm is offered very little. Due to Dutch elm disease, elm stocks in Europe have declined drastically.

Turnwood

As turning wood, elm is fantastic. It is very easy to cut and finish.

Wood is a natural product and every piece of wood is different. The wood in the picture is meant as an example and will never be exactly the same as the piece sent. Wood can sometimes have a small crack or an old wormhole. The wood is sealed with paraffin.
