Massaranduba

Massaranduba is a beautiful red-brown wood species from Suriname. In Suriname, it is also called horse meat wood. When freshly sawn, Massaranduba has the same colour as horse meat. Later, the wood takes on a dark red-brown colour with few markings. This type of wood lends itself very well to outdoor use; many a terrace has been made from Massaranduba. When turning this type of wood, it is important to sharpen your chisel often, as the wood is so hard that the chisels become blunt sooner. However, it can be finished incredibly smoothly. While working this type of wood, it releases a pungent smell that is truly characteristic of this wood.
