Tormek SG 200

The SG-200 is an all-round grinding stone. The grain size is adjustable between 220 and 1000 grit with the SP-650 Grading Stone. This makes the stone ideally suited for both coarse and fine grinding. Most types of tools and steels are sharpened in no time. The SG-200 fits all Tormek models with a grinding wheel of 200 mm in diameter and a width of 40 mm.

The SP-650 Grading Stone polishes the surface of the grinding stone from its normal 220-grit, to a surface that works like a 1000-grit grinding stone. This is a huge advantage, as you can fine-grind using the same grinding jig setting as the one you used to shape the tool.

Wet grinding

The SG 200 is a wet grinding stone. The stone should always be running in water. If you don’t use the stone for several days, remove it from the water. And let the stone fill up well before grinding again.

Disadvantages

A disadvantage of this type of grinding stone is that, in time, the stone will wear down, forming grooves. Over time, the stone has to be ‘unzipped’ flat again. If you no longer want this kind of maintenance, or want to get rid of the water, look at a CBN wheel.
