8 mm Carbide Cutter from Hope Woodturning

A carbide cutter you can use to hollow out small boxes and end grain wood. The 40 cm square shaft helps you find the ideal cutting angle. The cutter is at a 45-degree angle to the shaft. Once you rest the cutter on the toolrest, the carbide cutter is automatically at the right angle for a nice cutting result. You can hold this cutter well due to the pleasant Softex coating on the handle.

It works as follows:

Adjust the toolrest so that the cutter is horizontally in line with the centre height of your workpiece. Then place the cutter on the toolrest and make sure it is horizontal in your hands. This is the position from which you can start carving small boxes or hollowing out end grain wood.

Tip:

You can also use this cutter very well to make a final nice finishing cut. With bowls, for example, you can hollow them out with your bowl gouge and make the last fine cut with the carbide cutter. This gives you a nice flat surface and saves sanding.
