This bottle opener is for the woodturner who loves functional craftsmanship. With this kit, you can turn your own unique beer opener – whether you use oak, walnut, or cherry wood from your own garden. It will always be one of a kind.
Pre-drilling
For the hole, use an 8 mm drill bit for hardwood and a 7.5 mm bit for softwood. It’s best to test first – the ideal size can depend on the type of wood. Drill the hole at least 32 mm deep. The opener will cut its own thread into the wood. Once it’s screwed in halfway, apply a bit of thin CA 5 superglue along the thread. It’ll never come loose again…
For extra strength, add a ring at the front to prevent the wood from splitting when you open that cold beer (works just as well for soft drinks …). You can use a piece of heating or water pipe for the ring.

If you’re looking for something special for your handle, take a look at Thuja wood or walnut – 35 x 35 mm is plenty.
