The Crown 242PMW
The Crown 242PMW is one of my most used chisels. Suitable to take away a lot of material in one go and, thanks to the extremely long long lasting edge, less often go to the grinding machine. The PRO PM steel by Crown Hand Tools from Sheffield in England is made with powder metallurgy technology. The chisels and gouges are tougher, harder and have a stand time that last much longer than the HSS chisels. This means more time to the lathe and less to the grinding machine! The handles of these chisels are of "ebonized" ash and very long, so that they can be pressed against the body while turning. The total length of this gouge is 66 cm. I use this gouge for example in the video below.
