Crown 241KW - 13 mm Cryogenic bowl gouge.
I use these Crown 241KW bowl gouges for the final cut when finishing my bowls. The 'cryo' steel guarantees a sharp cut.
The steel of the “cryo” tools from Crown hand tools from Sheffield in England has undergone an extreme heat/cold treatment, which has changed the structure of the steel. It has a longer service life and a sharper edge can be applied to the tool compared to the standard M2 HSS. Initially I was somewhat skeptical about these “cryo tools” but working with them convinced me! I always do the “final cut” on my bowls with a cryo tool. Experienced woodturners will notice the difference!
The handles of these tools are made of “ebonized” ash wood and are nice and long, so that they can be pressed well against the body while turning.

NB:
There is often confusion about the thickness/width of the gouge. This is because the English measure the width of a bowl gouge from the outside of the tool to the inside of the flute. The rest of Europe gives the thickness of the material as the size of the tool.
