Workshop turning hollow forms and vases.
Woodturning is really fun. Especially if you have a good understanding of technology, it will become more and more a beautiful hobby! In this woodturning workshop you will learn, among other things, how to hollow out. In 2 days all the techniques of hollowing, cutting and scraping will be covered with all the common tools available on the market. You will learn how to handle wet and dry wood as well as longgrian and crossgrain wood. We make a vase or a pot, or just a beautiful hollow shape. After the workshop turning hollow forms and vases, you will of course take the workpieces home with you.
How and what?
How do you cut a piece of wood from a tree? Which type of wood is actually suitable for forming a hollow form? What gouges do you use and why? How do you sharpen the tools? What is a safe speed? Which wood do you use for what? What is a beautiful shape and why? At the end of the course you will take your work(s) home. Various hollowing tools are available on the market. You can find most of them in my workshop and of course you can use them all. We also finish the surface. Oil? Paint? color or not? Can I waterproof the form?
experience
Woodturning experience is required for this course. If you sign up, you can turn wood between the centers and making a bowl is no problem for you. Experience with other woodwork is an advantage but not essential.
Where?
In Nieuw-Wehl, 15 Wardsestraat, between Arnhem and Doetinchem (NL), in the workshop of Ronald Kanne, wood turner and demonstrator. They work on the best lathes on the market. Robust, Oneway, Vicmarc and Stratos. And each student has their own lathe, so you don't have to share one with anyone else.
The next workshop will take place at october 17th and 18th 2024. The coffee/tea/lunch, the wood and the use of the tools are of course included in the price.
The course will be held in Dutch and German.
