Open Days - April 20 and 21 - 2025
free entrance!
Easter, come and be amazed!
And of course there are tools and wood for sale and... if you're lucky... there are lathes that you've never seen before...
Demonstrations
As mentioned, there will be at least 10 demonstrators. You can watch them all and ask them anything. Keep following this page because more names will be announced as time goes on... Scroll through this page to find out who's coming and what you can see. The first 2 you'll come across are special demos where you can sit down and watch on large screens. These are not free, everything below that is free...
Hans Weissflog
Hans studied mechanical engineering and design before he focused on woodturning. The precision of a mechanical engineer is reflected in his work. He not only seeks the boundaries, he pushes the boundaries of what is possible on a lathe. His technically perfect and challenging pieces are carefully designed before he starts turning. After he became known in America with his complex boxes, Weissflog also focused on bowls. But then bowls like Weißflog. He believes, as a modern artist, that you can produce anything on the lathe, if you just have patience. And he has patience. He still rejects 1 in 3 workpieces he makes. I have one of Hans's rejected workpieces at home. I once received it from him... I don't see anything wrong with it... :-). You don't need patience when visiting a session by Hans. If you want to attend one of his demonstrations, it will take 1 to 1.5 hours. But you can sit comfortably. Hans comes together with his son Jacob. Jacob Weißflog is now outdoing his father. His work can also be admired during the open days.

Peter Hromek
Peter Hromek
When I first met Peter about 15 years ago, I told him that I was an admirer of his work. And that his work always had a touch of eroticism. He looked at me for a while and then said: "aber natürlich!"
Peter Hromek was born in what was then Czechoslovakia, but moved to Germany at the age of 22. Like Hans Weißflog, he studied mechanical engineering and then built his first guitar, and many others. Peter even wrote a book about making guitars. Through guitars, he came to woodturning self-taught in 1986. His hollow objects and sculptures are turned on multiple axes and usually finished with milling and sanding. His objects are exhibited in the USA, Australia and Europe of course
On Monday April 21st he will give 3 demonstrations in the Videotent…

Jan Hovens
I think he would be offended if I didn't ask him to join the Open Days for once. Friend and colleague Jan Hovens is a welcome guest in my workshop. We can **talk** to the point of boredom about woodturning and whatever else is happening in the world...
Jan is one of the best woodturners in the Netherlands. I always think it's the most beautiful when Jan chases screw threads. The ease with which he does this shows the years of experience. His boxes are magnificent! He will certainly make a few during the open day. I hope he will put a few of them up for sale in the gallery. Jan is also the maker of my Mastodont. A giant bowl corer. Which of course can also be seen in action.
Arend Jan Kulsdom
One of the kindest woodturners I know is called Arend Jan Kulsdom. 80 years old now and active like no other.
For years he has been at markets and fairs with his colored spinning tops and his Oei-Oei birds! If you come with your child, stop by. Then the little man or woman can color a spinning top... You can't start early enough... You can find Jan in the catering tent
Simon Hope
Simon Hope was born in 1974 and has been turning wood since he was eleven. He has already travelled all over Europe for demonstrations. His artistic turning and boxes using silver and tin are his favourites. He used to make his own Alan Pipes, but since he started making his own woodturning tools, he hasn't had time for that. And he has been doing that for 20 years now. The Hope threading jig, the Hope Star Drive, the Hope carbide cutters... And he will show them all. Always good to see a woodturner at work who makes his own tools!
Eddy & Audrey Nijsen
Eddy makes pens and sells everything you need for it. I've never turned a pen before, but Eddy can tell you all about it. So maybe I should take a course with Eddy too. :-) Anyway, Eddy and Audrey will have a booth at the Open Days with pens, pen presses, pen boxes, pen cases, pencil cases, writing pens, drawing pens and much more... including their latest addition, the Beaufort Ink pen kits! So if you're into wooden pens, you should be here at Easter...

Clive Brooks
He has been there every time so far. The extremely sympathetic, knowledgeable, eloquent representative of Robert Sorby, the English top brand in woodturning tools. He tells you everything about, for example, the belt grinder the Pro Edge. Or the Peter Child pyrography machine!
Or the huge 22 mm fingernail grind bowlgouge!
Clive only speaks English. He does know a few Dutch words, but he learned them from me and they are of no use to him during the Open Days... I hope, in any case, that he does not use them... :-)
Schrijf iets...
Mastodont
A self-built bowl saver that has already given me hundreds of bowls. We will be working with it again on the open day. I will say in advance... the machine is not for sale and we do not cut bowls from chunks of wood brought by visitors... :-)

RONNY EELEN
If you are now thinking: "that woodturning.... could I do that too?" Then drop by Ronny Eelen during the Open Days. And he will gladly step aside so you can try it yourself! I think that in the group of demonstrators there is no one who has done as many courses and workshops with other turners as Ronny.
Don't let that beard scare you off though. He's quite nice... :-)
Roland Steinert
Roland runs a woodturning supplies store in the Erzgebirge in Germany with his brother Martin. His father and grandfather were also woodturners. Roland is at the open days with Steinert's smallest lathe, the piccolo, and has the hand-forged turning tools from Neuhammer (formerly Gläser) with him. And he's also bringing their Manpa tools. So even more shavings... :-)
