African Blackwood is a beautiful heavy dark brown/black, dense wood. The wood is also called Grenadil and in Africa it is called M’pingo. The tree can grow up to 14 meters, but usually they do not grow more than about 7 meters. M’pingo grows mainly in the horn of Africa. African Blackwood is widely used for making musical instruments. Flutes, oboes and clarinets. The wood is also often used because of the sharp delineation between the core and sapwood.

Wood is a natural product and every piece of wood is different. The wood in the photo is intended as an example and will never be exactly the same as the piece that is sent. Wood can sometimes have a small crack or an old worm hole. The wood is sealed with paraffin.
