Description

Elm

European elm is characterised by its often coarse grain. Due to the strong growth in spring, elm wood often has beautiful flames in the grain. Elm wood is solid, tough, fairly light and usually uniform in texture. People used to make all sorts of things from the elm tree. Wheel hubs and steering wheels, tool handles, brushes, oars, clogs and casting moulds. Nowadays, elm is offered very little. Due to Dutch elm disease, elm stocks in Europe have declined drastically.
