With a curved tool rest on the outside of a bowl you prevent the "overhang" of your gouge becoming too large. You can place the tool rest closer to the wall along the entire outside of the bowl. To achieve this, the support is also slightly tilted on the shaft, so that the wood does not run against the support.

The curved tool rest is 30 cm (12") long and can be supplied with a 30 mm post or a 1 inch (25.4 mm) post.
