Eiko Tanaka is a Japanese artist who has brought wood turning to another level. On a lathe she makes beautiful objects that have been finished to the utmost perfection. And she is coming to the Netherlands! On June 7 and 8, 2019 she is our guest in Venlo. Eiko’s work is of breathtaking beauty. The shapes she makes, the colors she uses, the laquer she uses, it is of unprecedented perfection. On June 7 and 8 she will be behind the lathe and she will show in detail how she works and she will tell us why.
The Eiko demonstration can be followed in detail on a large screen and everyone can perfectly see how she works. So if you are open to new ideas, techniques and visions you have to be there.
Woodturning in Japan.
Wood turning in Japan is very different from wood turning in Europe. It starts with the lathe that is used both clockwise and anti clockwise. The toolrest is usually a kind of little table and the turninghook slides over that table. Almost everything is turned with these hooks. And Eiko forges her own hooks!
