A small lathe to begin with, or if you only want to make small items, or if you're looking for a lathe to take with you. The headstock and tailstock are made of cast iron, just like the bed, which makes the CARP 1420 MIDI a stable machine with almost no vibrations. But there are more features that make the 1420 MIDI a good investment. The quill (the spindle that can be removed from the tailstock) is hardened. You can't see this, but it’s a welcome feature when you're, for example, drilling. Additionally, the quill has a trapezoidal thread. This allows the quill to handle much more force and enables faster in-and-out movement. You won't find this on any other lathe in this price range. Another difference from similar lathes is the finish on the CARP 1420 MIDI : it has a powder coating! This means it's not spray-painted, but instead has a finish that can withstand some wear and tear... a powder coating, in other words. A third noticeable difference is the tool rest. All CARP lathes use the CARP tool rests, which are the best you can get. Vibration-free with a hardened round steel top (62-63 HRC) measuring 12 mm. The spindle on the lathe has an M33 x 3.5 mm thread (DIN 800). There’s also a fitting for a tailstock safety device. A ring (ASR) ensures that a faceplate or chuck cannot unscrew during operation. This ASR ring is, of course, included. The motor is variable speed, adjustable from about 240 to 3500 RPM. With the optional bed extension, you can create more space between the centers. You can turn up to 35.5 cm in diameter on the CARP 1420.

Why choose a CARP Lathe?
Although CARP is a Dutch brand, the CARP lathes are made in China and Taiwan, just like other brands such as Stratos, Killinger, Laguna, Record Power, Jet, etc. But the observant woodturner will notice the differences. The powder coating, the hardened tool rest, the hardened quill, the improved live center, or the trapezoidal thread in the quill. These are features that distinguish CARP lathes. Things you may not notice immediately but will certainly appreciate over time! Look, compare, and choose CARP.
