Steb centers are useful things. The wood is not driven by 4 teeth but by a whole row of small teeth.
The diameter is 1 inch. The centers are made of stainless steel. A big advantage for wood turners who work a lot with fresh wood or wood that contains a lot of tannic acid. And these centers will not rust in an unheated workshop! The centering point has a spring whose tension you can adjust. This point works as a centering pin. When the counter center is then tightened, the teeth push themselves into the wood. The stebcenters are also useful if you have a bite. The shape of the teeth keeps the center turning and the wood stands still without further damage. The shape of the teeth also makes the center suitable for turning the lathe clockwise. The work can easily be placed back in the same position if it needs to be removed from the bench for a while.
