The Oneway 2436 is undoubtedly one of the best lathes on the market. Power and elegance, made for a life-long pleasant woodturning.

Overview of the Oneway 2436

  • spindle stock-#2 Morse Cone
  • Tailstock-#3 Morse Cone
  • Thread-M33 x 3.5 mm (both for ' onboard ' and ' outboard ', M33 is the most common thread)
  • 2 Kinds of outboard turning devices available
  • 2 sizes bedextensions available-17 " Extension and a  60" extension. The Bedextensions are attached to the bed with heavy bolts and provide extra length between the centers.

This machine is available in 4 versions:

Spindle

  • The spindle in the spindlestock of the Oneway 2436 is worn by 4 bearings. On the front side there are 2 x 45 mm ball bearings that provide minimal radial and axial clearance of the spindle. At the back are 40 mm bearings that can absorb any changes of the spindle through heat development. The bearings do not need maintenance and are lubricated for life.
  • The spindle can be fixated in 48 (!) positions.
  • The spindle is heavy. 51 mm at the thickest point, 40 cm long and 16 mm pierced. and has a morse taper 2. The spindle is made of high alloy steel, i.e. that have been added to the carbon steel elements that provide more hardness and e.g. less influence of heat. Then the shaft is hardened. The tolerance of the axle is 0.0001 mm.

The head stock:

  • The front of the headstock, where the large bearings sit, protrudes 8 cm. This makes it possible to create larger bowls and mount them reverse. And it gives the tools more space to work on the back of a bowl or board.
  • Behind the M33 x 3,5mm thread is a groove that causes a clamping plate or chuck to be secured on the spindle. This allows the shaft to rotate in reverse direction and the chuck will not unscrew itself.
  • The shaft is powered over 3 pulley with a 10 grooved Poly V Belt
  • Should this belt break unexpectedly, it will take up to fifteen minutes for an untrained person to get the spindle in and out.

The tailstock

  • The parts in the tailstock are all made of tough and extremely hard steel. The quill is even more hardened, so drilling with large diameter drill won't damage the quill.
  • The casing is made of cast iron.
  • Other plus points of the Oneway 2436:
    • The quill can travel 12 cm.
    • The thread on the quill is combined with the hand wheel that the quill can be quickly and easily turned in and out.
    • The Morse Taper 3  ensures firmness. Also at the live center.
    • The clamp mechanism with which the tailstock is fastened to the bed is unparalleled. There is absolutely no movement once the tailstock has been secured.
    • The quill is pierced by 8 mm.
    • The tailstock  has a handle on the back. This makes the thing easy to pull off your workpiece. (This may seem like a little thingy, but I miss it on almost all other banks...)
    • The high degree of finishing ensures that the tailstock slides easily over the bed.

The BANJO / Tool rest support base

Where some lathes still tighten their tool rest support with a spanner key, Oneway does this with a mechanism and handle that is very easy to clamp and loosen. This patented system makes it easy to move the banjo much and quickly. I think there is little debate among wood-turners that this is the best banjo out there for sale. This banjo is therefore often sold separately to wood-turners with other brands of lathes.

The tool rest.

The tool rest (1 inch) clamps unusually well in the banjo thanks to a unique clamping mechanism, which also ensures that if the clamping mechanism is loose the chisel support can be easily taken out. This leaves the lathes that have tool rests that are very tight in the banjo far behind. Even after a day of oak wood processing the tool rest can still be easily maneuvered in the banjo...

The Stepless control speed.

  • Frequency inverters come in many types and sizes. On your lathe you need the best out there.
  • The inverters are pre-programmed and ready for use.
  • Speed adjustable between 0 and 3000 rpm. (Forward and reverse).
  • Available in 1.5 hp, 2 HP, and 3 hp.
  • Thanks to the sophisticated 3 fase engineering there is already a huge torq from 100 rpm.
  • Speeds: 70-700/190-1900/305-3050 revs per minute. Pulleys can change in less than 30 seconds.
  • The inverter lets you work at 150% of maximum power for up to 1 minute.
  • The frequency converter switches itself off when there is a short circuit or a hefty ' catch '. This to protect the engine.

The bed

  • The bed and ribs (bedways) are welded on the huge steel pipe underneath. The whole construction is stripped of tensions and very precisely flattened.
  • The rigidity of the construction is unrivalled. Stiffer than a cast iron bed.
